About Dr Fernandez

Dr Adrian Fernandez is a Senior Consultant General Surgeon with VMO privileges at Calvary Bruce Private Hospital since 2017. He has a special interest in colon and rectal surgery and completed fellowships in colorectal surgery at John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle and Nepean Hospital, Sydney before moving to the Far South Coast, NSW where he has worked for more than 10 years.

He is GESA accredited for Gl endoscopy and provides a range of surgical services that include laparoscopic repair of abdominal wall herniae, management of gallbladder disease and treatment of benign anorectal conditions. All malignant colorectal disease is managed in a multi-disciplinary fashion and he is an active member of the Canberra Region Gl Cancer MDT that meets weekly. He has public appointments at Cooma Hospital and South East Regional Hospital and is on the Consultant roster for general surgery emergencies.

He is the current Co-President for the Provincial Surgeons of Australia and is a co-opted member of the RACS ACT committee where he is co-convening the RACS ACT Annual Scientific Meeting scheduled for August 2022. He is passionate about educating the next generation of surgeons and supervises SET trainees, JMOs and medical students.
Outside work, he has two great loves — his family and long-suffering football club (in equal measure!)

In April 2021 I joined the administration team for Dr Fernandez and it has been my privilege to be a part of our patient’s care team during this time. I grew up in the Bega Valley, it is our little piece of paradise that my children too, get to call home. Our patients who live both locally and travel for the expertise of Dr Fernandez can rest assured that our commitment is to our patients and ensuring they get the best care possible
